Yep, I’ve been waiting for this one, also. One of the best family movies I can remember, yet it is quite spirited for adults as well as children. Very laughable tale of what happens when the legendary Bigfoot creature collides into the lives of an average suburban family. The character interactions are quite touching as the family becomes emotionally attached to this “lovable monster” that doesn’t know his believe strength and keeps wrecking their house and deforming their car. The casting is pleasurable, the anecdote is simple but well-executed, and the area build-up is well-paced, and the ending is satisfying, leaving you with a warm fuzzy feeling.

The Bigfoot creature is INCREDIBLY authentic-looking, and pulls off a remarkably wide range of facial expressions that assist lend to his believability, lovability, and humor. Frankly, I consider if the creature had not been so well executed, the movie would not be so tall. I hope there is a “making-of” featurette on this DVD that shows how they made this character (it’s a Special Edition, there’s gotta be!) .

I can observe this film again and again. I assume it truly is a classic. Movies like this are few and far between.

When our adult children were petite they loved this film. Now we have an eight year faded who is extremely physically handicapped but is mentally alert. He absolutely loves this film. When I acquire it up to observe if he wants to scrutinize it and he gets the biggest smile. It is a film that children never accumulate tired of and we adults treasure it too. I had actually forgotten about this movie until I ran across it one day and I immediately ordered it. I am so blissful it finally came out on DVD.

To be a samurai meant owing nearly absolute allegiance to the leader of one’s clan, the daimyo. One often filmed narrative is about 47 dependable samurai committing harakiri en masse when their clan is disbanded. But what happens when the daimyo is unjust and plays with the lives of his exact samurai?

In SAMURAI REBELLION, a young samurai is forced by his daimyo to marry a difficult mistress who had dared to manhandle him. Lady Ichi surprisingly turns out to be a jewel, and Yogoro, her recent husband, grows to adore her. When the daimyo changes his mind and has her kidnapped after several unsuccessful attempts to bully the family, Yogoro and his father Itaburo (Toshiro Mifune) singlehandedly steal on the whole clan.

Before you know it, the blades are out of their sheathes, and bodies are falling all over the dwelling. Particularly spectacular is a duel between Itaburo and his friend Tatewaki (played by the huge Tatsuya Nakadai) in a windswept field of grass. Director Masaki Kobayashi (KWAIDAN, HARAKIRI) is at his best here; and numerous scenes are icily controlled and eerily heavenly as he guides his camera, breaking down sequences into abstract geometrical patterns.

I can’t encourage remembering the song in the musical BANDWAGON which summarizes HAMLET as “The king and the prince meet / And everyone ends up mincemeat.” As in HARAKIRI, there is a point to the mayhem here: The honor of a single family CAN outweigh the honor of the clan.

quite challenging. A woman, Lady Ichi, is forced by the regional Lord to marry into the family of a vassal (Samurai Isaburo played by the incomparable Toshiro Mifune) because she insulted the Lord in public. After two years, Isaburo’s son and Lady Ichi drop in love; they have a daughter. All is well except it becomes convenient for the Lord to request return of the woman and annul the marriage…thus Lady Ichi is twice betrayed. Samurai Isaburo is incensed. He and his son resist the claim of the Lord to catch the woman befriend and literally fight to the death for the suitable of Lady Ichi and his son to savor each other and legitimize the daughter. Throughout, the movie is quite sympathetic to women issues and Lady Ichi is portrayed magnificently.

What makes the movie so outstanding is the design in which sound, music, and photography are combined to reinforce the themes of the film. Literally, every frame of the movie has some symbolic significance: the positions of the parties, the carefully phrased speech of the protoganists and agonists, the sound of wind. Every frame is an art fragment – like a collected life. (This is the style of another of the director’s masterpieces of historical Japan – HARAKIRI) . If THRONE OF BLOOD is the Japanese version of Macbeth, SAMURAI REBLLION is the Japanese version of the Iliad. I loved it.

Having grown up in Japan and America, I really felt this movie captured the cultural differences between the two countries with humor, intelligence and charm while peaceful making its points pro and con for both. I don’t agree with the comparison to LOST IN TRANSLATION at all. That movie was about alienation. The main characters could have met on the moon. There was almost nothing in that film that reflected the Japanese culture. I don’t mediate it was trying to. In fact several Japanese friends and myself found it rather offensive to Japanese people. The Ramen Girl more specifically portrays being a foreigner alone in Japan. There are many fully developed Japanese characters and situations. The central position could only ever happen in Japan. This is more of a coming of age movie. What is delicate about it is that it suggests that it’s possible to actually bag oneself and grow outside of one’s home culture and then to bring what has been learned encourage home and lead a richer life. Abby, the central character, is sort of a lost soul. Finding herself abandoned in Japan, she is literally and charmingly, through several magical events, drawn into the culture of cooking ramen. Her scenes with her teacher are often hilarious as he doesn’t bellow a word of English and she doesn’t state a word of Japanese. What transpires would appear to be typical but it’s not. Nothing plays out objective as one would seek information from it to. Her efforts are actually quite inspirational, although not always triumphant. All of the performances are first rate. Brittany Murphy has never been better and all of the Japanese cast are salubrious. This movie was very well received in Japan. Journalists and movie goers were really surprised that it was written and directed by Americans. They clearly understood the culture they were making their film about. I believe it’s stout that this movie is finally available to an American audience on DVD. It’s really kind of irresistible. It’s also mountainous to eye a movie now that has such a obvious point of plan and leaves you feeling so great.

This movie owes its inspiration to Tampopo, the critically acclaimed, gently quirky Japanese film about a female mastering the masculine art of ramen noodle soup making. Brittany Murphy is really quite reliable as a rudderless 20-something American abandoned in Toyko by her boyfriend. She happens upon a ramen shop and is inspired to master the art of making the perfect Ramen soup. There is a lot of attention to detail in station perform and costume, although Ms. Murphy’s shoes are probably not what kitchen serve would really wear to attach in a 12-hour day.

The Ramen Girl has some subtitles due to its authentic Japanese cast which lend the feel of an art house flick. Another nice touch is a soup making competition in which actor Tsutomu Yamazaki, who was the truck driving mentor in Tampopo, turns in a comical turn as the reflect of the soup making competition. I gain this movie has enough charm to appeal to a wide range of viewers and if you really like it, hey, check out Tampopo as well.

Island of Assassins, or In Memory of the Walther P-38 as it was originally called, is not the typical mostly-comedic Lupin film. This one has a darker and more series tone, but there is capable comedy subtly sprinkled throughout the movie.

The animation is fluid, the character designs are different, but it doesn’t select long to gather feeble to them, and the action is plenty.

In this movie, Lupin finds himself going to the hidden Island of Assassins after his aged, stolen Walther P-38 gun is primitive by someone in an assassin group to shoot Zenigata.

This island is also rumored to enjoy massive amounts of gold, so naturally, Lupin and crew go after that. But there’s more going on at the island, and Lupin, Jigen, Goemon, and Fujiko accept themselves true in the middle of a tall situation that divides the dwelling of the island down the middle.

We also procure to learn about Lupin’s past from his pre-Jigen years in this movie.

I loved this special! It was very titillating and with grand pacing and fluid animation. Character designs didn’t bother me at all, and I loved how it ended.

The man female character in this movie, other than Fujiko, is Ellen. I concept Ellen was an edifying character. I loved how she was introduced and how her character developed throughout the movie.

As for the DVD itself, the transfer was ample. The video looked great and trim with no defects, and the audio was also immense. The viewer could decide from English 5.1, English 2.0, and Japanese 2.0. There are dubtitles for the English track, and subtitles for the Japanese track, so be determined to decide the moral one. The dub, asides from pronouncing Lupin’s and Jigen’s name incorrectly, was also done well.

Highly recommended. AnimeOnDVD gave this movie a grade of A, and I do as well. Don’t even hesitate and purchase this one up.

Easily the best of the TV Specials and movies released by FUNi, if you can only glean one Lupin movie this year, effect it this one. To be unprejudiced, I wasn’t expecting worthy from this movie, other than the usual Lupin entertainment (which is always profitable, mind you), but what I got was the perfect blend of the dusky undertone of early Lupin, yet all the sensitivity of Miyazaki’s Lupin from ‘Castle of Caglisotro’. And better yet, my main man Mr.Strait wrote the English adaption WONDERFULLY. Not with the same ‘throw away’ gags that FUNimation often likes to do, but with truly impressive dialogue, complimented greatly by his philosophize for Lupin. Forget the mispronouncing of Lupin’s name, it’s easily ignored. The video and audio were worthy, as usual. With Japanese and English on the DVD. I’d only ask now that we got other Dubs, too. I fancy seeing how different enlighten actors from all over the planet play these classic characters. But the special features aren’t really. . . Special. But I’m determined the Japanese release didn’t reach with a commentary, which I’d like to hear.

Anywho, to wrap it up, big movie, generous dub, sub-par special features. . But they don’t really matter anyhow.

As a world history teacher, I am always on the lookout for something that can assert our yarn with a twist. This one does it quite nicely.

The documentary tells the legend of man’s exhaust of one (and other numbers, but the focus always returns to the number 1) throughout time with a funny twist. It explores early uses of math, why mankind had to design math, why the Roman Numerals were improper to our fresh system and continues on to the unique exhaust of binary numbers.

As soon as I saw it I knew I wanted it for my history class. It will be vast as a different sort of review of the history that we have studied thus far.

I give this one a grade of ‘A’.

I saw this program on a PBS site and loved it! As a college professor teaching in a basic skills ‘Learning Community’ of Math and Reading, I found this DVD gave students a framework to understand and observe the progression of the very concepts they were using in basic math classes. Great class discussion ensued because of the humor and the presentation provided. I agree with another reviewer. This program is effective for students from grades 6 up to and including college. What a fun procedure to learn! I purchased my bear DVD but also ordered a copy for our college library.

The predictions surrounding the ominous date of December 21st, 2012 are plentiful and often a bit “freaky”. This video is a appetizing exception! We follow a personal scurry of discovery across the USA as Sharron Rose gets in her car in the Northwest forests and ventures cross-country (and across time!) through gorgeous scenery and astonishing scenarios. Her travels are punctuated with discussions traversing mostly irregular – and Piquant – facts and theories based on diminutive known historical artifacts, frail structures and writings of learned philosophers and religious adventurers. These well-respected scholars and writers drawl us to The Mysteries that have been “hidden”…which means that they simply have not been included in our mediocre educational system which typically focuses on the generic and mundane. After my first viewing, I immediately watched it again as it was filled with so distinguished unusual information, I wanted to remove more time to both understand these fantastic revelations and to let the beauty of the definite options for our collective future presented “sink in”. The quality of the film was outstanding and I fell in esteem with our guide Sharron. Having viewed MANY dvds featuring 2012 possibilities, I say this one is by far the best, especially for those who are honest discovering the 2012 “prophecies”. If there was ONE dvd on the 2012 phenomena to watch/buy…this is it!

For anyone who is deeply concerned about the future of the planet, I highly recommend this film.

Writer/director Sharron Rose, went out on a quest for the meaning and import underlying the prophesies around the year 2012. She interviewed many of the leading writers and experts on the subject and brought together their knowledge in a very deep and consuming plan, for they spoke of the profound changes that are coming for all of us from an intelligent, spiritual and practical perspective. Whereas many of these type of documentaries focus on the panic factor, while it does not skirt the issues that are in front of us, 2012 The Odyssey puts them in a larger historical context and shows us that even though things may seem dusky and chaotic, there is light at the ruin of the tunnel and we need not despair. In fact, it is a very kind and hopeful film.

In addition to the advantageous interviews, towards the raze, the film unveils the message of the mysterious Georgia Guidestones. Probably built by the Masons, or could it be the Illuminati or Fresh World Order, this Stonehenge like monument offers a message for the future that is both gruesome and though-provoking. As Sharron says, this message which is like some current create of the Ten Commandments certainly gives one a lot to consider about.

From the depth of the interviews, to the meeting with the Inka Elders and their prophesy that a original species is being birthed, to the notion of the noosphere and the teachings of Teilhard de Charden, this film is packed chunky of juicy information. This is MGM at their best. A double-feature DVD with two Roger Corman classics, both in glorius widescreen, both in savory technicolor. The first gem, “Masque of the Red Death”, has never looked better. A sage of decadence state during the unlit plague, here represented as the “red plague”, thus Edgar Allen Poe. But where Poes astonishing poem ends, is, so-to-speak, at the waste of this film. Corman took Poes ugly vignette on the murky death and spun a record of Satanism versus Christain notion, all location in a richly atmospheric castle in the middle of a hellish landscape — For those of you squemish about anything to do with Christianity, assume of it as a morality play of Superb against Evil; afterall, Corman is rather ambiguous as to who the hooded “death characters” really are — And our host to the party to destroy all parties, none other than Vincent Notice himself.

The second film, Premature Burial, I’d never seen until this DVD. It is not as hypnotic at “Masque”, but it is a fun, macabre gallop into madness with a valid actor, Ray Milland, at the helm. Also starring the very sexy, very voluptious Hazel Court, which some Hammer Terror fans may remember from the up and coming dvd “Curse of Frankenstein”, due out in October. The film is presented in widescreen. Both films, one on each side of the DVD, include very nicely produced extras with Roger Corman, giving some nice information on the creation and production of both films. If your a fan of Vincent Sign, select it for “Masque”. If your a fan of Roger Corman, you will not be disapointed in either film.

Premature Burial may be considered merely an extra, on this DVD – it’s passable, but overall not that hot. The actual star of the explain is Roger Corman’s Masque of the Red Death, one of the best of his Poe cycle films. Both movies were co-scripted by genre master Charles Beaumont, a frequent Twilight Zone contributor, the extinct with assistance from fellow genre master Ray Russell. Premature Burial is the less impressive of the two due to general position procedure, which is rather hackneyed and predictable, and Ray Milland simply didn’t have the presence for this kind of work that Vincent Trace did.

Masque of the Red Death is a very clever rendition of two of Poe’s best works, the title anecdote and another lesser-known miniature section of nastiness called “Hop-Frog.” Tag plays the imperfect fourteenth century Prince Prospero, who safely ensconces all his country’s nobles slack his castle’s walls to sustain them helpful from the dreaded plague of the “red death” that is ravaging the populace. Prospero is a decadent and sadistic Satanist, who views his role in the proceedings as that of more or less a diabolical Noah, preserving his absorb kind until the plague passes. One of his guests – an equally sinful Patrick Magee – is horribly murdered by a dwarf he mocks and despises, constituting the “Hop-Frog” subplot. Prospero, meanwhile, delights in attempting to seduce and degrade innocent Christian peasant girl Jane Asher, considerable to wife Hazel Court’s immense ire and scare. Eventually, an uninvited guest wearing the forbidden color red appears in Prospero and his partygoers’ midst, whom Prospero takes to be none other than Satan, himself, reach to delight in Prospero’s sinister handiwork – but who is actually none other than the Red Death, personified, with more than one frightening surprise for Prospero…

The dialogue and symbolism in Masque of the Red Death are stellar. The Red Death mocks Prospero from late his screen, hinting at powers and knowledge Prospero only pretends to have. When Prospero suggests that only Satan could have sent him, since he believes Satan rules the universe, the Red Death wryly responds, “He does not rule – alone…” The concluding exchange between the two, and the terrifying finale of gaudily dressed partiers dying in an off-key, bloody ballet, is knowing – the whole film is very Ingmar Bergman-esque. The production is obliging, extremely lustrous, with absolutely magnificent sets and costumes.

Buy it for Masque of the Red Death. You might even devour Premature Burial, too.

Lea Salonga in my plan has one of the most commanding voices on Broadway. She can give life to different types of songs. And in this particular concert, she gets to exhibit the versatility of her thunder as she tackled a varied selection of some of her approved indicate tunes. Not to mention I have never heard anyone sings so perfectly in a LIVE performance.

I especially savor her subdued, simple, and heartfelt version of I’ve Never Been in Fancy Before. She captured the essence of the song beautifully. She gets to advise two songs from Flower Drum Song. Her I Appreciate Being a Girl is a total treat as she sang it with such grinding, girlish, waggish sassiness. Her Worship Notice Away is less emotional compared to the FDS cast recording, but this version is more polished and more valid.

One of the highlights of the concert was her rendition of Nothing from A Chorus Line. She dedicated the song to all her detractors early on her career when she was unprejudiced starting. I fancy how she gave life and energy to the song, I have never heard that song sung with such vocal precision and vivacious spirit.

As a treat for Miss Saigon fans, she sang a song from the present that did not earn it to the final carve. The song is called Two Considerable For One Heart. I wonder why the composer decided not to include the song. “I’d give my life my for you” was the emotional core of Kim, “Too great for one heart” could’ve been the vocal showcase core for Kim.

I also like Lea’s recall on Where is Appreciate and especially As Long as He Needs Me. Those were worthy renditions that present off her vocal range. She was intense and in screech of the song especially the latter. Her Someone to peruse over me was also another highlight. She was very effective in capturing the hopeful and romantic and melancholic mood of the song.

The note ended with two broad songs, Something Incredible and Being Alive. As she sung the final ticket of Being Alive, the light bubs in the stage all lit up to one fine finale. You unprejudiced have to seek it, it was breathtaking!

Note: The DVD does not own the entire concert some songs were lop (Another Hundred People, Wouldn’t it be Loverly, Children Will listen, Fallin, On My Enjoy, I Serene Have in Appreciate, and People) probably due to licensing issues or the fact that some of the songs were already released in her other albums. But this is a must retract. I highly recommend this to all her fans and fans of musicals.

Grade: A +

If you worship Lea and broadway, you need to possess this DVD. From begin to achieve she is breathtaking. Her phrasing is impeccable with a notify to match. Her version of “Someone To Sight Over Me” in my conception has never been done so beautifully, and with impartial a guitar backing her. The San Miguel Philharmonic lead by her brother Gerard is equally improbable. Bravo Lea!

This novela was the best novela I have seen in years. Everynight we would run home to study it and not only that friends of mine were watching it too. All the stars did a stout job and the villan Daniel.. is something else.. so sinister.. yet so satisfactory! A improbable actor! Eduardo Yanez & Adela Noriega as well as Jorge Salinas, Pablo Montero, Nora Salinas, Ninel Conde, Diana Bracho, Joaquin Cordero were all vast in it. Practically every episode had a cliffhanger, also the priest was advantageous too. The ravishing settings in Cholula, Puebla Mexico and the storyline were unbelievable, don’t miss out!!

No tengo understanding sobre que pasa con estos productores, tienden a escoguer las mismas ideas e historia para producir una novela que ya fue hecha. Este es el caso en esta telenovela-aparenta ser la misma historia de “pasiones de gavilanes”. Asi, que el que la vas a comprar tiene que estar pendiente a este pequeño detalle.

I have grown up with this anecdote of The Hobbit, its one of my favorites. I have always had this movie in my collection and know the lines by heart. I have bought this DVD and the DVD stinks! Warner Brothers ruined this memoir on DVD. How? The sound was re-mastered for the DVD and there are sound effects MISSING! They primitive an stale copy of the soundtrack that was obsolete on a four narrate station that issued in 1978. If you want the complete soundtrack I recomend you select the VHS tape. (The older the copy the better) They have also added recent sound effects and lines that are NOT in the the unique soundtrack! There are also problems with their DVD’s of The Lord of the Rings and The Return of the King. (Perceive my reviews for those DVDs under there listings) If Waner Brothers really cares they will re-issue These 3 DVDs after correcting their problems. ~Rob~

I saw this movie for the first time as a pre-schooler, and loved it. Occupy it or not, I actually saw this movie before I read the book. In retrospect, I realize that my mother introduced me to this movie to prepare me for the book, which she later read to me as a bedtime fable. Anyway, I detached like the movie, which now holds additional nostalgic value. In my idea, this movie is a better adaptation than the other attempts to translate Tolkein’s work into animation. Piece of this is probably due to the fact that The Hobbit actually was a simpler book, and was made to please younger children, as well as older kids and adults. Even though the encounter with Beorn was left out, this movie is an agreeable adaptation of the modern, covering all distinguished set points, and making well-behaved expend of Tolkein’s songs and poetry in the soundtrack. I calm believe of the melodies in this film when I read the musical sections of the book. The vocal acting was done brilliantly, with Orson Bean making Bilbo simultaneously mild-mannered and courageous; John Huston giving Gandalf a vigourous personality and resonant deliver to match; and Hans Conreid making Thorin suitably proud and surly. The animation, which some people call “dated” is perfectly adequate, is not so spectacular that it takes one’s attention away from the sage, and has a feel that I have never found outside of a Rankin-Bass film. In fact, it actually resembles a exciting illustration. This film has survived the test of time, and remains an agreeable map to secure someone (child or adult) involved enough in Middle Earth to read the books, at which point they are firmly bent.
